Rumored Atila from Motorola

Posted by sawaru | Category: Mobile Phone

Motorola-atilaMotorola’s latest  much-rumored smartphone, currently named "Atila," has had images of it supposedly leaked to the public. Designed as a device to compete directly with the iPhone, it features a touchscreen, 3G support and will run Windows Mobile.

The device reportedly will feature quad-band GSM/EDGE along with tri-band UMTS/HSPA, making it ideally suited for use overseas or on AT&T and Rogers in North America. The device will not support T-Mobile USA’s 3G rollout, only the carrier’s existing 2.5G network.

Atila will supposedly run on a Qualcomm 7201A processor, speed unknown but likely in the 400 MHz range.

Its 2.8 inch QVGA touchscreen will be its only means of input, lacking a hardware keyboard or numeric keypad. This is a big part of what separates it from the Motorola Alexander, a similar model that was recently leaked.

Posted by sawaru | Category: Mobile Phone, Smartphone, Software

Previously E-TEN was embedding some programs from Spb Software into their Windows Mobile phones, but now even Toshiba is doing it! This choice just confirms how good products from Spb Software are, and users of Windows Mobile phones can buy them individually too to enhance their Windows Mobile phones.toshiba-portege-G810-spb

Not a bad idea– let the folks who already know lots about making great software for Windows Mobile Professional handle the customized touch user interface for your new Windows Mobile Pro phone. Toshiba did just that with their G810, announced at Mobile World Congress in February of this year and now just hitting importer’s shelves.

Blackjack 3 aka Samsung i788

Posted by sawaru | Category: Mobile Phone, Windows Mobile

blackjack-III-atnt Rumor is floating around that AT&T will be launching the BlackJack III Samsung i788 some time in the very near future. It will be powered by Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional and will get loaded with HSDPA, GPS, WiFi, and optical mouse pointer. Perhaps the most notable change, however, is that the BJ3 may actually be equipped with a touchscreen. I wonder if that was just a slip of the tongue on the part of the Boy Genius.
In any case, we’ll have to sit tight until AT&T and Samsung make some sort of official announcement.

Microsoft recently introduced Windows Mobile 6.1, an upgrade of the Windows Mobile operating system.

It adds new features and capabilities to the previous (6.0) version, enhancing your Web browsing and day-to-day use of Windows Mobile. It also adds new features and capabilities of interest to the enterprise users. This article looks at some of the more important enhancements.

Improved Messaging

Microsoft has made some significant enhancements in the Messaging application. For enterprise users Microsoft added Exchange Auto-Discovery, which makes it easier to set up synchronization with Exchange. Users are now able to download e-mail from all accounts at the same time. Microsoft added auto-complete for e-mail recipients, which makes it easier for users to enter e-mail addresses on small keyboards and touch screens. Also, Windows Mobile 6.1 added the ability to select multiple e-mail items in the list so you can easily delete or move e-mail. Finally, Windows Mobile 6.1 includes optimizing the bandwidth utilization for Exchange, POP3, and IMAP4, which is very important to enterprise wireless data users.

Other enhancements to WM 6.1

A number of enhancements made to Windows Mobile 6.1 are of particular interest:

  • Bluetooth headset auto-pairing: Makes it easier to pair your device with standard Bluetooth headsets.
  • Bluetooth phone address profile: This enables the transfer of phone book information across phone-enabled Bluetooth devices.

  • Enhanced "Getting Started CD" not only contains user-installable versions of Mobile Device Center and ActiveSync, it includes software that helps the user set up their device and an application that makes e-mail setup easier by exporting their Outlook settings from a desktop PC to the Windows Mobile device.

Managing Mobile Devices—System Center Mobile Device Manager

Last fall, Microsoft released a new server to manage Windows Mobile devices called System Center Mobile Device Manager (SCMDM). SCMDM actually adds Windows Mobile Devices to Active Directory and provides group policy management of the device security as well as a separate VPN connection optimized for Windows Mobile. Posted by admin | Category: Mobile Phone, Smartphone, Windows Mobile

Touchscreen a bulky device, not anymore.

toshiba-portege-G810_frontYou know the old saying – “touch screen phones are like buses, you wait years for one to come along and then a bucket load arrive at once.” The Portege G810 from Toshiba is certainly one of the best looking smartphones money can buy and when it’s released (expected release date is currently the second quarter of this year so any time soon) it will have an abundance of impressive features to boot.

The most recent announcement is that this little beauty will include the latest Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system. Users will enjoy better security features, improved navigation, and increased time saving features thanks to the Windows platform.

Other features include an improved user interface as well as an impressive touch screen display. A 3MP camera and built-in GPS receiver make this an impressive all round handset ideal for business or personal users.

The Portege G810 is Toshiba’s first foray into HSUPA handsets. HSUPA provides handsets and users with improved data transmission speeds and is dubbed as being the savior of multimedia handheld devices. Realistically, it does mean that handsets can offer a greater number of features and applications without the usual increase in manufacturing price and it will certainly offer improved speeds with a number of those individual applications.
