Blackberry Bold, iPhone-like with 3G
Posted by admin | Category: Mobile Phone
Research in Motion’s (RIMM) new BlackBerry Bold should be a big hit with IT operations professionals convinced the iPhone isn’t an enterprise-class mobile device but driven to near-aneurysm by discontented employees demanding them.
The device is largely as expected–an iPhonish-looking thing with both GPS and Wi-Fi, 1GB of permanent flash memory, a 2-megapixel camera, full HTML browsing, 3G support on GSM networks with HSDPA access and, of course, the BlackBerry’s one-trick killer app: instant, secure email. That’s a compelling combination for business users and casual ones not easily swayed by the iPhone’s hype juggernaut as well. Indeed, Citigroup analyst Jim Suva says it could boost RIM’s quarterly shipments by 200,000 to 400,000.
But perhaps not without a bit of struggle. The BlackBerry Bold won’t ship until as late as August, which means Apple (AAPL) could beat it to market with the enterprise-friendly 3G iPhone it’s rumored to be uncrating at its Worldwide Developer’s Conference in June. Which has got to worry RIM. After all, the first-generation iPhone had claimed a 28% market share by the fourth quarter of 2007. That’s still less than the BlackBerry, which holds about a 41% market share, but the iPhone hasn’t even been on the market a year.

TG Sambo a PMP plus Digital TV
Posted by admin | Category: Music & Entertainment, Portable Media Player & Storage
TG Sambo’s new PMP is noteworthy at least because it doesn’t attempt to ape the iPod Touch’s GUI. The Korean media player also has a larger screen - at 4.8-inches - and aside from audio and video is capable of browsing the internet via a WiFi b/g connection and watching T-DMB digital TV. Hidden underneath the “Luxurious” menus is Windows CE 5.0, churning away on an Alchemy AU1250 700MHz processor.
At the moment the PMP has only been confirmed for a Korean launch, but it’s not unusual for these gadgets to be picked up and rebadged for sale in North America and Europe. It could make for an interesting middle-ground between the iPod Touch and Nokia’s range of N-series Internet Tablets. However neither of those have mobile TV.

HTC HSDPA Diamond checked!!
Posted by admin | Category: Mobile Phone, Smartphone, Trend Watch & News, Windows Mobile
Next Tuesday HTC is holding a London press conference where attendees can ‘witness the next wave of HTC innovation’.
HTC is already down in the books as being a member of the Open Handset Alliance scheme with Google, and will be releasing an Android handset later this year apparently, however it’s looking likely next Tuesday will usher in the Diamond model, a 2.8″ touchscreen HSDPA mobile, the first of the HTC clan to run on Windows Mobile 6.1.
How do we know all of this? Thanks to HTC’s Financial Executive Cheng Hui-ming, who spoke to the Taipei Times and actually named the handset as being “the most important product for HTC this year”. Whether that’s a slip of the tongue, or HTC won’t be releasing their Android offering this year after all, remains to be seen.
Also confirmed are some of the internal specs, including WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth, 4GB of internal memory plus an impressive (for a smartphone) 3.2-megapixel camera. As you can see from the blurry pixellated image above that was leaked to Engadget, gone are the curves of the Touch mobile, in place is a seriously impressive screen, and omitted QWERTY keyboard.

"Tube" Nokia’s iPhone Killer
Posted by admin | Category: GPS Navigation & Guidance System, Mobile Phone, Smartphone
Nokia showed its vision of a rival to the iPhone this week at Evans Data Developer Relations Conference in California. The Finnish handset giant will be launching its first touch screen device in the next two months, a spokesman from Nokia confirmed.
The company insists the phone it showcased was just a demonstration of the Nokia’s vision of a touch screen interface rather than a finished product, but the device was uncannily reminiscent of the Apple device.
The touch screen concept phone first made an appearance last summer at Nokia’s GoPlay event in August 2007.
The device will be named Nokia Tube 5800, according to reports. However, the discussion surrounding the device has dubbed it ‘Nokia’s iPhone killer’.
Nokia refuses to discuss specifics of the phone, but according to reports it will have a 3.2 mega pixel camera, 3G, Wi-Fi, GPS, a TV output port, and is appointing 140MB of memory.
Although the Nokia version beats the iPhone in some features, such as the 3G functionality, by the time it comes out there may well be a 3G iPhone in the market.

Highly competing the MP3 touch crown
Posted by admin | Category: MP3 Player
Currently there are plenty of benefits to using a touch-screen interface instead of traditional button navigation, including increased screen real estate, a cleaner look, and the potential for new ways of manipulating data using dragging, pinching, and swiping gestures. In practice, however, no one does touch-screen media players as well as Apple. In fact, we’re already starting to see some spectacular failures.
With the exception of the LXPI, the MP3 players shown here also include some type of wireless capability to complement their futuristic touch interfaces. Whether it’s the integrated Bluetooth of the Samsung P2, or the full Opera Web browser of the Archos 605 WiFi, these iPod Touch competitors have more to offer than discounted prices and pretty looks.

Satellite phone a MSV slider
Posted by admin | Category: Mobile Phone, Smartphone
Mobile Satellite Ventures is aiming to expand its services to the general public with mobile phones that can use both a traditional network or switch to a satellite in remote areas. MSV promises to bring this hybrid connection technology in the first phone pictured initially, which would become a part of MSV’s L-series line.
The non-working model shown included Wi-Fi, applications typically found in smartphones, a web-cam and a speakerphone, all in a manageable 0.6-inch thick body. The interface is via the phone’s 480×320-pixel resolution touch-screen. Another prototype, called simply the R-series, would act as a tougher, less delicate offering in MSV’s line-up.
To that effect, the company showed off a slider phone prototype at CTIA, promising to make it available to the general public in 2010. First, though, MSV would need to partner up with a traditional US-based provider that would offer terrestrial coverage. Its next generation network planned for next year would see the launch of two new satellites, one for the US, the other for Canada.

I-mate Ultimate 9502 standard package review
Posted by admin | Category: Smartphone, Windows Mobile
I-mate Ultimate 9502 is the larger sibling of the i-mate Ultimate 8502, and shares the honour of being Australia’s first HSUPA phone. While this phone is in the same league as a Blackberry or the iPhone, be wary of Telstra’s promised internet speeds.
Design wise
What is immediately striking about the i-mate 9502 is the bright 2.8-inch touch screen that occupies most of the front panel. The generous 640×480 resolution means you can really enjoy multimedia content on this phone.
Unlike its smaller sibling, the i-mate Ultimate 8502, the QWERTY keyboard on the 9502 is hidden underneath a sliding screen. While it’s quite small, raised keys means typing is acceptable. In a similar manner to the iPhone, the 9502 automatically detects which way the phone is oriented and tips the screen accordingly.
At 116 by 60 by 17.8mm the 9502 is just fractionally larger than its smaller sibling, the 8502. While this isn’t a small phone, it’s a compact for the range of features it offers — and much smaller than a monster like Nokia’s E90 Communicator.
The 9502 offers a range of additional buttons, and we like the scroll wheel placed on the top left hand corner along with the with e-mail and IE key shortcuts. One annoying feature is that the button placed on the left hand side of the phone sits right next to the sliding screen, which opens in a spring loaded fashion. This left us occasionally pushing the screen rather than the "OK" or "wireless" shortcut.

Surface made headline table page
Posted by admin | Category: Multi Touch, Table and Floor
“Better late than never”, that could be the ad slogan for Microsoft’s Surface computer.
The table top, multi-touch, screen-based device that the company demonstrated last May has been wildly popular as “demo-ware” – garnering lots of attention in its public outings.
However, so far there have been none of the deployments initially planned by Microsoft’s commercial launch customers by the end of last year.
Microsoft announced this week that AT&T will begin using the Surface computer in its phone stores, starting with “select retail locations” in New York, Atlanta, San Antonio, and San Francisco on April 17. The intent is for consumers to use the computer to help them compare mobile phones and service plans for sale in the stores.
“By harnessing the power of Surface in our retail stores, we’re giving shoppers the opportunity to learn about the growing universe of mobile applications and devices in a very personal and unique way,” AT&T said in a statement.
