Rumored Atila from Motorola
Posted by sawaru | Category: Mobile Phone
Motorola’s latest much-rumored smartphone, currently named "Atila," has had images of it supposedly leaked to the public. Designed as a device to compete directly with the iPhone, it features a touchscreen, 3G support and will run Windows Mobile.
The device reportedly will feature quad-band GSM/EDGE along with tri-band UMTS/HSPA, making it ideally suited for use overseas or on AT&T and Rogers in North America. The device will not support T-Mobile USA’s 3G rollout, only the carrier’s existing 2.5G network.
Atila will supposedly run on a Qualcomm 7201A processor, speed unknown but likely in the 400 MHz range.
Its 2.8 inch QVGA touchscreen will be its only means of input, lacking a hardware keyboard or numeric keypad. This is a big part of what separates it from the Motorola Alexander, a similar model that was recently leaked.

Blackjack 3 aka Samsung i788
Posted by sawaru | Category: Mobile Phone, Windows Mobile
Rumor is floating around that AT&T will be launching the BlackJack III Samsung i788 some time in the very near future. It will be powered by Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional and will get loaded with HSDPA, GPS, WiFi, and optical mouse pointer. Perhaps the most notable change, however, is that the BJ3 may actually be equipped with a touchscreen. I wonder if that was just a slip of the tongue on the part of the Boy Genius.
In any case, we’ll have to sit tight until AT&T and Samsung make some sort of official announcement.

DT Research’s WebDT 310 Tablet review
Posted by admin | Category: Tablet PC & UMPC
Tablet PC sales hit just a relatively small 4.6 percent of the overall mobile PC market last year, according to research firm IDC, but are poised to grow significantly faster as more applications enter the market that take advantage of their functionality.
That’s worth keeping in mind, too, as an increasing number of service and commercial businesses have been trying to use tablets to boost productivity and work flow, with a large portion of this growth in the Industrial Mobile Tablet market.
As the first in this segment with an integrated bar code scanner, a 2 Megapixel camera, and a Magnetic Stripe Reader (MSR), all-in-one; San Jose, California based DT Research’s recently released WebDT 310 and 360 models aim to address the requirements of many vertical markets.
The WebDT 310 that the Test Center recently evaluated has a 10.4 inch touch screen and weighs two pounds (versus the 360’s 8.4 inch touch screen at 1.8 pounds). The highly customizable units are fan-less, with solid state memory and a solid state drive. Options include hot-swappable/wearable battery packs, and the customer’s choice of Windows Embedded XP, CE, or Tablet PC operating systems. This allows companies with existing commercial applications to continue running them without re-engineering.
While many tablets are available with the choice of scanner, camera, or MSR, DT Research claims that this is the first device available with all three (each as an added option). At the bottom of the screen are three customizable buttons to the left, and four on the right. There is also a fingerprint reader in the center. Our evaluation unit was fitted with protective bumpers on the sides and an elasticized hand strap in the back. The horizontal placement of the hand strap makes long-term use of the tablet in landscape position very tiring. Portrait orientation was much more comfortable. In addition, although the fan-less design makes the WebDT virtually silent, this causes the back panel to get very hot.

HTC iPhone-killer unveils a worthy alternative

HTC unveils rival to Apple’s iPhone
HTC,a fast growing Taiwanese handset manufacturer, unveiled in London its new flagship product, the HTC Touch Diamond, a product that is widely expected to pose a challenge Apple’s iPhone.
Introducing the device that promises one-touch access to a number of features, including the mobile web, photos and music among others Peter Chou, president and CEO of HTC, declared 2008 the year of the mobile internet, and said his company, a relatively new player in the mobile telecommunications technology sector, was poised for another phase of rapid growth with the innovative phone.
Powered by Windows Mobile 6.1, the compact touch screen device — the latest update of HTC’s Touch smartphone line that has sold more than 3 million units worldwide since last June — features a revamped TouchFlo 3D interface. With a 2.8 inch display that allows users to zoom in on content with the touch wheel or tilt it by turning it on its side, the phone is a mere 11.5 mm thick, making it even thinner than the iPhone, and includes a 3.2 megapixel camera and 4 GB of storage.
HTC chief marketing officer John Wang said the new device runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, comes with 4 GB of internal storage with 256 MB flash and 192 MB RAM and runs on a Qualcomm MSM 7201A , 528MHz chipset. Other features include Bluetooth with EDR, minUSB, integrated GPS and Wi-Fi and 900 mAh battery which claims to offer a 4-hours standby talk-time on GSM.
Egg Phone trendsetter for future phone designs?
Posted by admin | Category: Mobile Phone, Trend Watch & News
Could we possibly see, sometime in the future, a Nokia Egg? Or a Sony Ericsson Egg? Only time will tell.
However, regardless of who creates the "mobile egg", we really hope someone will do it. With such a look and features, this mobile handset has all the chances to become a hit, especially among the users who look for a unique mobile phone.
A young designer from Prague, the capital of Czech Republic, recently came up with a fresh and good looking mobile phone concept, called the Egg Phone. Far from being bulky like an egg, the new handset mobile phone has an oval-shaped, curved case that seems to be quite slim and, more important, it can probably fit well in users’ hands.
Roman Tubl, the creator of the Egg handset, imagined the device having "illuminated" margins and a wide touchscreen display with tactile feedback, which represents the only way users can control the device’s functions. Therefore, it seems we have here the very first full-touchscreen phone that clearly differentiates itself from Apple’s iPhone and its design. Which is, obviously, a good thing.
Besides the touchscreen, said to be easy to use, the Egg phone should also have a pretty cool range of features, including: a 3.2 Megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a USB port for both charging and data transfers, Enlarge picture and an internal memory of "up to 4GB". If some 3G speeds and other goodies can also be squeezed in the Egg, then the handset is, at least theoretically, a very attractive one.
Blackberry Bold, iPhone-like with 3G
Posted by admin | Category: Mobile Phone
Research in Motion’s (RIMM) new BlackBerry Bold should be a big hit with IT operations professionals convinced the iPhone isn’t an enterprise-class mobile device but driven to near-aneurysm by discontented employees demanding them.
The device is largely as expected–an iPhonish-looking thing with both GPS and Wi-Fi, 1GB of permanent flash memory, a 2-megapixel camera, full HTML browsing, 3G support on GSM networks with HSDPA access and, of course, the BlackBerry’s one-trick killer app: instant, secure email. That’s a compelling combination for business users and casual ones not easily swayed by the iPhone’s hype juggernaut as well. Indeed, Citigroup analyst Jim Suva says it could boost RIM’s quarterly shipments by 200,000 to 400,000.
But perhaps not without a bit of struggle. The BlackBerry Bold won’t ship until as late as August, which means Apple (AAPL) could beat it to market with the enterprise-friendly 3G iPhone it’s rumored to be uncrating at its Worldwide Developer’s Conference in June. Which has got to worry RIM. After all, the first-generation iPhone had claimed a 28% market share by the fourth quarter of 2007. That’s still less than the BlackBerry, which holds about a 41% market share, but the iPhone hasn’t even been on the market a year.
