Nokia 7700 was just the first stab
Posted by sawaru | Category: Mobile Phone, Trend Watch & News
Today, however, Nokia is trying to play catch-up with the likes of Samsung and more notably, Apple with its iPhone. Both have touchscreen products in the marketplace while Nokia’s version could be released by the end of the year.
The Finnish company’s first stab at the touchscreen format was in 2003 with the Nokia 7700 series which was later discontinued. Local pricing and availability would be revealed closer to launch date in the first quarter next year, a company spokesperson said.
Nokia N82 clones in Philippines
Posted by sawaru | Category: Mobile Phone
Looking for a real Nokia N82, it’s perhaps its best if you ignore these clones from China being sold in the Philippines.
From the picture posted, none cost more than P4,000 (a shade over $100). But again, you get what you pay for. While the specs aren’t clear, no unit features a camera over 2.0 megapixels (compared to the 5.0 of the real deal). Thanks to migsmobile
LG top in touchscreen mobile phone sale
Posted by sawaru | Category: Mobile Phone, Smartphone
Korea-based LG is nonetheless one of the largest manufacturers of any cellphone type and reports selling 27.7 million phones in the April-to-June quarter, pushing past Sony Ericsson’s 24.4 million. The electronics giant is likely to assume third place in world market share after Nokia’s 122 million phones and Samsung’s expected higher numbers. These two companies have both seen their average selling prices drop as their sales balance shifts to lower-cost phones.
LG on Monday revealed that it has sold about 7 million touchscreen cellphones since the company first introduced a full touch device through the Prada Phone in early 2007. The company claims to have the "leadership" of the category and notes that two million of these are the KU990 Viewty camera phone; the next most popular devices are the North America-focused Venus and Voyager at 1.6 million and 1.3 million examples each, according to the company. The remaining 2.1 million are split between the Vu as well as models that are largely only available in Europe or Korea.
Nokia Tube specifications on screen
Posted by sawaru | Category: Mobile Phone
Nokia expects to be in a position to officially announce its first mainstream touchscreen phone in the next few months.
While currently remaining well within the realms of industry speculation, initial rumblings following Nokia’s outline suggest that the company’s first handset out-of-the-mainstream-gate will be the 5800 Tube.
Looking not unlike a certain trend-defining phone created by Cupertino-based Apple Inc., and already tentatively referred to as something of an “iPhone killer,” the 5800 Tube is expected to hit the market by the close of summer 2008.
Nokia patented Haptikos a touchscreen prototype
Posted by sawaru | Category: Mobile Phone, Trend Watch & News
Haptikos is only at the prototype stage at the moment, but lets hope Nokia gets its skates on and combines it with S60 Touch UI to create a killer touchscreen phone.
One of the big problems with touchscreens is the lack of physical feedback compared to pushing buttons. Nokia’s haptikos tactile touchscreen system could change all that by adding a layer than can be made dynamically bumpy, so it feels more like pressing real keys and less like just swiping a smooth surface.
Nokia Tube in 2008 or next year
Posted by sawaru | Category: Mobile Phone, Trend Watch & News
Now it appears that the Nokia touchscreen Tube wait is almost over… with potentially less than inspiring results. In a statement released today from the company’s head of devices, Kai Oistamo, the phone-maker says it will be launching a series of touchscreen devices in the second half the year, with the first model — likely the Tube — aimed at the "volume market." Oistamo claims that the mid-range market (not the high-end sector that devices like the iPhone 3G occupy) account for 50 percent of the total value of the touchscreen phone game. Essentially, it looks like Nokia’s strategy will be business as usual, likely flooding the field with unspectacular mid-range phones, rather than taking on pricier competition like recent Apple and Samsung devices head-to-head, at least initially. Of course, who can argue with the company that shipped 122 million units in Q2 2008?
Nokia nWave an iPhone like with more advantages
Posted by sawaru | Category: Mobile Phone
The Nokia nWAVE is an iPhone-like smartphone with a huge, cleverly curved touch screen that adds a whole heap of advantages.
General specifications:
Materials: Titanium frame, composite body and glass screen cover
Screen: 5.4 in / 800×320 / 2:5:1
Capacity: 32GB shared memory ( 4x larger than priciest iPhone)
Networks: GSM / HSDPA/ UMTS
Camera: 5.0Mp / Flash / Video Rendering
Since it is a Nokia, it would be likely they will use Symbian OS that even more features incorporated like Flash Lite 3 which even iPhone 3G is still lacking.
Typhoon complaints to many touchscreen device manufactures
Posted by sawaru | Category: Trend Watch & News
Typhoon’s complaint alleges that defendants have infringed and continue to infringe its US Patent 5,379,057 issued 3 January, 1995 and entitled “Portable Computer with Touch Screen and Computer System Employing Same,” and US Patent No. 5,675,362 issued October 7, 1997 and entitled “Portable Computer with Touch Screen and Computing System Employing Same."
It launched litigation over the alleged infringements in December 2007 against Dell. Now, Typhoon has added Apple, Fujitsu, Toshiba, Lenovo, Panasonic, HTC, Palm, Samsung, Nokia and LG Electronics to the list of companies it is litigating against.
“The addition of these defendants is a further step in protecting Typhoon’s IP from being unfairly exploited. Hopefully, the world of potential infringers will take notice that it is the company’s intent to aggressively protect its intellectual property,” said Typhoon’s director of legal affairs and licensing, Hofheimer, Gartlir & Gross lawyer, Craig Weiner.
Nokia Tube a possible S60 device
Posted by sawaru | Category: Mobile Phone, Smartphone, Trend Watch & News
Nokia gave a preview of the product, code named ‘Tube’ in April, generating a flurry of speculation similar but on a much smaller scale than that which preceded both the first and second versions of the iPhone. That initial flurry died down soon after the announcement and this week’s revelations could be an attempt by Nokia to try and stimulate some prelaunch publicity for the product.
In all likelihood any Nokia touch screen phones will use the Symbian S60 platform on which many Nokia phones are based. A touch screen version was announced in October 2007 . According to the Allaboutsymbian.com website, the touch interface will support both finger and stylus input, has full multi ingual support, has support for tactile feedback (haptics) and is backwardly compatible with the existing S60 platform.
Features identified at the time as giving it an advantage over the first iPhone included: its ability to support qwerty keypad, stylus, or touch screen input, tactile feedback and a web browser integrated with flash video.
Also many manufacturers are licensed to use S60 so there could be a very wide choice of touch screen S60 handsets available. There are claimed to be 100 million S60 devices sold, and thousands of registered S60 applications developers.
When it previewed Tube in April Nokia dismissed the threat posted by the first iPhone saying that it shipped more phones in weekend than iPhone’s, speculated, total sales. The new 3G iPhone with more features, a much lower prices an much wider availability will be a different kettle of fish entirely.

Egg Phone trendsetter for future phone designs?
Posted by admin | Category: Mobile Phone, Trend Watch & News
Could we possibly see, sometime in the future, a Nokia Egg? Or a Sony Ericsson Egg? Only time will tell.
However, regardless of who creates the "mobile egg", we really hope someone will do it. With such a look and features, this mobile handset has all the chances to become a hit, especially among the users who look for a unique mobile phone.
A young designer from Prague, the capital of Czech Republic, recently came up with a fresh and good looking mobile phone concept, called the Egg Phone. Far from being bulky like an egg, the new handset mobile phone has an oval-shaped, curved case that seems to be quite slim and, more important, it can probably fit well in users’ hands.
Roman Tubl, the creator of the Egg handset, imagined the device having "illuminated" margins and a wide touchscreen display with tactile feedback, which represents the only way users can control the device’s functions. Therefore, it seems we have here the very first full-touchscreen phone that clearly differentiates itself from Apple’s iPhone and its design. Which is, obviously, a good thing.
Besides the touchscreen, said to be easy to use, the Egg phone should also have a pretty cool range of features, including: a 3.2 Megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a USB port for both charging and data transfers, Enlarge picture and an internal memory of "up to 4GB". If some 3G speeds and other goodies can also be squeezed in the Egg, then the handset is, at least theoretically, a very attractive one.
