"Tube" Nokia’s iPhone Killer

Posted by admin | Category: GPS Navigation & Guidance System, Mobile Phone, Smartphone

nokia-Tube_1 Nokia showed its vision of a rival to the iPhone this week at Evans Data Developer Relations Conference in California. The Finnish handset giant will be launching its first touch screen device in the next two months, a spokesman from Nokia confirmed.

The company insists the phone it showcased was just a demonstration of the Nokia’s vision of a touch screen interface rather than a finished product, but the device was uncannily reminiscent of the Apple device.

The touch screen concept phone first made an appearance last summer at Nokia’s GoPlay event in August 2007.

The device will be named Nokia Tube 5800, according to reports. However, the discussion surrounding the device has dubbed it ‘Nokia’s iPhone killer’.

Nokia refuses to discuss specifics of the phone, but according to reports it will have a 3.2 mega pixel camera, 3G, Wi-Fi, GPS, a TV output port, and is appointing 140MB of memory.

Although the Nokia version beats the iPhone in some features, such as the 3G functionality, by the time it comes out there may well be a 3G iPhone in the market.

HP VGA big-screen PDA

Posted by admin | Category: GPS Navigation & Guidance System, PDA, Windows Mobile

PDAs aren’t dead yet. Nor is Intel’s XScale chip technology. Hewlett-Packard’s new, attractive big-screen handheld packs an application processor that still includes plenty of Intel’s XScale DNA.

HP is now shipping production units of the long-awaited iPaq 210 (originally slated to ship last year) that features a 4.0-inch, 640×480 (VGA) resolution screen. The 210 (which is rebranded internationally as the 211, 212, and 214), comes with a Marvell PXA310 processor running at 624MHz, 128MB of memory, and 256MB of flash ROM.

Though Intel sold the business that made XScale processors to Marvell more than a year and a half ago (June 2006), Marvell is still making processors based on Intel technologies. Marvell states that the PXA3xx processor family “is the third generation of applications processors based on Intel’s XScale technology.” The PXA310, made on a 90-nanometer process, includes Intel SpeedStep technology, Intel Wireless Trusted Module encryption technology, and an Intel Wireless MMX 2 co-processor. Sony Xperia X1 first look

Posted by admin | Category: GPS Navigation & Guidance System, Mobile Phone, Video Player

BARCELONA—Sony Ericsson Sunday night announced its first Windows Mobile phone, the Xperia X1 – and it’s coming to the U.S. soon.

“It’s a truly converged device for entertainment and productivity. We’re trying to avoid the use of the term ’smart phone,’” said Suzanne Cross, head product marketing manager for Sony Ericsson North America.

The Xperia line signals a new focus on innovations in ‘user experience’ for Sony Ericsson, said Rikko Sakaguchi, the company’s head of portfolio and propositions.

“What is tomorrow, what’s the vision?” he asked. “A very simplified view is mobile communication with a rich, enriched environment with the Web … it’s not about a great-looking phone or nice design, it’s more about appealing to the senses.”

Whatever it is, the X1 is smart. The 0.68-inch thick, 5.2-ounce device slides open to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard and a 3-inch, incredibly high-res 800 X 480 touch screen. Yes, that’s a higher pixel density than the iPhone. Read the rest of this entry »

No More Mouse; Touch screen making inroads

Posted by admin | Category: Trend Watch & News

The hands-on approach is making its way into more technology used by consumers, from laptops to mobile phones to gaming and multimedia devices.

With these devices getting smaller and sleeker, touching them with a finger is often much easier and way more comfortable than clicking a mouse or thumb-typing on a tiny keyboard.

Touch-screen technology is people friendly, said Mike Agerbo, host of the Get Connected TV and radio show.

“As humans, we do everything with touch and with our hands whether we’re opening a door or sorting things out,” Agerbo said from Vancouver.

“It’s more of a natural way to actually interface with things.” Read the rest of this entry »

Touch Screen phone alternative to iPhone

Posted by admin | Category: Mobile Phone

Sure there’s a 3G iPhone expected this year, but why wait? There are plenty of phones already available that have 3G and everything else the iPhone has: 8 GB of storage, a built-in music player, a touch screen (often accompanied by a qwerty keyboard), and even add-on features like visual voice mail.

LG Voyager

10lgvoyager_tn.jpg One of the most-talked about iPhone knock-offs this year is the LG Voyager. It has a large external touch screen for easier phone and Internet navigation, a built-in music player, and Shortcut Menu icons that appear on the Voyager’s touch screen and another set of icons at the bottom of the screen — all the features that bear resemblance to the iPhone.

What makes the Voyager slightly different are some additional features, such as a full qwerty keypad that slides open sideways, expandable memory that holds up to 8 GB, and 3G connectivity for high-speed Internet access.

The Voyager also comes with multimedia capabilities, including an HTML Web browser; Verizon Wireless’ V Cast mobile TV, video, and music service; and the ability to play MP3, WMA, and unprotected AAC files. For more storage room, the phone has a removable microSD memory slot that holds up to 8 GB of memory. Read the rest of this entry »
