Kohjinsha’s PCs getting more features and lower price tag

kohjinsha_sc_series-728-75

If you’re in Japan, that is - the latest refresh adds features, knocks prices down, and brings GPS to the ultra-mobile class for the first time.

Atom inside

Keeping only to the briefest details, the new SC series starts at ¥99,800 (£465), for which you’ll get a 1.33GHz Intel Atom chipset, 1GB of RAM, a 60GB HDD and a built-in 1.3-megapixel webcam.

On top of that, there’s that internal GPS module, a 1-seg digital TV tuner, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a multi-card reader, ExpressCard and USB and Ethernet ports.

Twist and turn

Most surprising of all, perhaps, are the touch-sensitive 7-inch screen that swivels and folds for a spot of Tablet PC action and the miniscule 798g the SC series models weigh.

On the downside, the OS is Windows Vista for some reason and the standard battery life is a slightly disappointing 3.2 hours. Still, a larger battery stretching to double that span is available.

Give that Kohjinsha sells some of its PCs overseas through subsidiaries, there’s a fair chance that these newcomers will join the exodus before long, albeit without the TV tuner.

Crystal Asus Eee, shinier but tough

Posted by admin | Category: Laptop & Notebook, Tablet PC & UMPC

asus-eee-crystal Asus Eee fandom has no bounds, and while replacing the case on most laptops seems preposterous, for the Eee it’s just another day of tiny typing and eye strain at the office. This Crystal Case by Proporta is constructed of scratch/shock resistant polycarbonate, but maybe more impressively, features a double hinge that adds 360 degrees of screen rotation to the Eee (perfect for the touchscreen-modded system).

More details here.

Asus Eee PC can handle many OS’s

Posted by admin | Category: Tablet PC & UMPC

Asus EeePC 900 When news of the new generation of Asus Eee PC broke out, we thought it would have touch screen. For those wishing for one, it looks like it won’t be happening. Don’t despair though, because it appears that instead of a touch screen, the Asus Eee PC 900 is getting a multi-touch trackpad. Yep, the one that’s on MacBook Air. You can then fancy yourself using the wafer-thin spawn of Cupertino while actually on an Eee PC. The price of the Asus Eee PC 900 varies depending upon the location, with a May or June release date.

The system, which is projected to cost 399 Euros (499 USD), is projected to be available in April 2008 in the US and later in the year in some other countries. It is projected to have an 8.9-inch 1024×600 pixel screen, 1GB RAM as standard, an 8GB to 12GB SSD, a larger trackpad with multi-touch features that allow two-finger scrolling and zooming via a "pinch" gesture, and is "Windows ready". Units on show at CeBIT 2008 were running both Windows XP and Linux, and Microsoft is reportedly in talks with Asus regarding a version of Windows 7 optimized for platforms such as the Eee

The Eee 900 series dimensions are a little larger than the 70x models. Asus CEO Jerry Shen also stated that future models of the 900 will be powered by Intel’s Atom processor, initially they will use the same processor as the 701. He also said future versions will have hard drive options, in addition to solid-state drives.

Get stylish with Asus R2H but wait

Posted by admin | Category: Laptop & Notebook, Tablet PC & UMPC

image The ASUS R2H is an ambitious little unit which has a whole range of features packed in, but eventually it fails to work well due to poor memory and processing power. If you’re willing to accept very basic functionality in exchange for excellent portability at a price tag of $1,699, then this may be the device for you.

Cosmetically, the R2H is very attractive and portable; weighing in at just 900g without its power supply. The brushed aluminium front panel matches the silver plastic backing nicely, giving the whole thing a very professional look. This wouldn’t be out of place in any boardroom or briefcase.
