Touch-Screen-Mobile Sales are Soaring

Posted by sawaru | Category: Mobile Phone, Trend Watch & News

A new report from IMS Research has indicated that Touchscreen-equipped mobile handsets sales have been building steadily for over a year now, they have forecasted that growth will become even stronger. Although there were fewer than 30 million touchscreen phones sold in 2007, IMS Research expect that number to increase to over 230 million by 2012.

With all other numerous indications that touchscreen-equipped mobile hand sets are poised to significantly increase their presence in the mobile handset market

The impressive growth that IMS Research is predicting will not be driven solely by the smartphone segment either. According to the IMS Research report Touchscreens & Input Technologies for Mobile Handsets, touchscreens will increasingly penetrate the much larger feature phone segment. In fact, Nokia just announced that its initial foray into the touchscreen market will be targeted at the “volume market” because that segment of the population is the largest consumer of mobile phones.

Google Android on HTC delayed

Posted by sawaru | Category: Mobile Phone, Smartphone, Software

android_phone.pngRunning Google Android on HTC could be push back to early 2009 the release of the cellphone maker’s first phone using the Google mobile operating system. The company rejects assertions by Global Equities Research analyst Trip Chowdhry that both technical and minimum payment issues are affecting the release and insists that the phone is on track for a fall 2008 launch. The researcher’s belief “does not match the facts,” the firm says.

The late 2008 launch is widely believed to be part of a high-profile release for not just HTC but also T-Mobile USA, which has been all but confirmed as launching its nationwide 3G network on October 1st and may launch the HTC device, often rumored to be the Dream touchscreen phone, as a companion to wider access for the carrier’s faster data speeds and improved call quality.

Most other Android phones aren’t slated to launch until early 2009 and are heavily rumored to have been partly hindered by delays in the Android software itself. LG, Motorola, Samsung, and others are part of the Open Handset Alliance instrumental in promoting Android.

Van Der Led WM2 Cellphone Watch

Posted by sawaru | Category: Mobile Phone, watch

Van-Der-LedWM2-watch

Stranger and stranger cellphone/ wristwatch combos are becoming more and more common, but few look as sleep as the Van Der Led WM2, a quad-band GSM phone with a 1.3-inch, color touch-screen display and a dial pad on the strap. It also comes with a 1.3-megapixel camera, 1GB storage, plays MP3/MP4 files, and offers stereo Bluetooth support. With all that style, it’s pretty tempting – perhaps too tempting – to imagine yourself as the watchphone wearing hero of your choice, be it James Bond or Maxwell Smart. For the record, we choose Johnny Sokko, because we pine for older, simpler times, when wristwatches were used as communication tools between Interpol agents and controllers for giant robots.

Though the $471 price tag isn’t making us inch towards the buy icon just yet.
