Logitech Harmony 1100 a New Luxe Remote Control
Posted by sawaru | Category: Remote Control
Logitech announced a new top-of-the-line device on Tuesday at CES 2009: the Harmony 1100, which replaces last year’s Harmony 1000.
Much like the Editors’ Choice-winning Harmony One, the 1100 uses one-touch, activity-based control, so you can program the remote to perform all the steps required to watch TV, for example. One touch of the remote’s on-screen ‘Watch TV’ button switches the television to the correct input, turns on the cable box and the audio receiver, and does whatever else is required to watch your favorite show.
The Harmony 1100 performs similar tricks for watching DVD or Blu-ray discs, playing console games, listening to music, and a host of other activities. The remote supports more than 225,000 devices from 5,000 manufacturers. And the 1100 uses the same incredibly easy-to-use guided online setup we loved in the Harmony One. It’s compatible with both Macs and PCs.
Measuring 4.09 by 5.48 by .68 inch (HWD), the tablet style Harmony 1100 is dominated by its big, bright 3.5-inch touchscreen. But you also get hardware Volume and Channel Up/Down and Mute buttons, along with a four-way pad for navigating menus. Soft buttons can be customized for the activities you use most frequently, and you can choose which commands appear on the touch screen and customize their accompanying icons.
Like the Harmony 1000, the 1100 features both IR and RF wireless technology, the latter of which will let you control compatible devices from up to 100 feet away, even if they’re not in direct sight. The Harmony 1100 will ship in February with an MSRP of $499.99.
